CAMP DESCRIPTION:

In just five days, campers will form a band, write an original song with their peers, and perform their song live on-stage on the final day of camp during our Girls Rock Roanoke Showcase!

Instrument choices include (but are not limited to):

  • electric guitar
  • bass guitar
  • electric ukulele
  • keyboard
  • drums
  • vocals

Campers are welcome to bring their own instruments to camp. For example, we have had campers play violin and clarinet in their bands.

In between jam sessions, campers will participate in age-appropriate workshops on a variety of fun topics such as:

  • Songwriting: practice using thoughts and emotions to write songs
  • Women’s HERstory: discover awesome women performers, songwriters, and industry veterans
  • Stage Presence: learn how to have fun on stage with band mates
  • Media Literacy: learn to think critically about media messages
  • Social Justice: learn how to create just and equitable communities
  • Yoga & Breathing: practice postures for relaxation and easing anxiety
  • Self-Defense: learn how to feel strong and safe in one’s body
  • Communication: try out methods of communicating with confidence
  • DIY (Do it Yourself) and DIT (Do it Together) Arts: make posters, zines, buttons, clothes and more
  • Tech Talk: find out how to operate all that rad band gear
