Girls Rock Roanoke is an all-volunteer, community-based organization in the Roanoke Valley whose primary focus is to empower female identifying, non-binary and gender expansive folks through music, creative expression and collaboration while supporting positive change in their own lives and communities.
Our week-long day camp provides ages 8-16 the opportunity to explore their musical creativity while forming lasting friendships in a positive, supportive, all-female environment. Campers form bands, receive musical instruction on the instrument of their choice, and practice with their bandmates to write, produce, and perform an original song on-stage during the Girls Rock Roanoke Showcase, which is held on the final day of camp.
In between practice sessions, campers will participate in workshops on a variety of topics such as women’s music HERstory, body confidence, media literacy, stage performance, songwriting, communication, tech talk, and more.
Girls Rock Roanoke encourages women of all ages to amplify their voices by serving as camp volunteers, workshop leaders, instrument instructors, band managers, and more.
In addition to our summer Girls Rock camps, we have partnered with Roanoke City Schools to provide after-school programming under their 21st century program. We debuted our program in 2019 at Hurt Park Elementary!
No musical experience or instruments are necessary to participate in our programs.
